How to Reach Wine Tasting Experiences in Tuscany

Wine tasting tours in Tuscany are easily accessible by different means of transportation.

By Air

The two most important international airports in Tuscany are the Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa (PSA) and the Amerigo Vespucci Airport in Florence (FLR). These airports are located only 80 km apart and Pisa airport is the biggest one.
You can easily get flights to major European cities through both airports, but Pisa has the highest number of low-cost flights. If you're flying further abroad, most airlines connect the two airports to a major hub in Italy and Europe.

By Car

If you decide to visit Tuscany by car, you can easily reach them thanks to the Italian motorway system that connects Tuscan cities with the rest of the country.
The main ones are A1, A11 or E80 to drive along the Tirrean Coast. You can easily rent a car in Pisa or Florence airport or at any train station in the main cities of the country.

By Train

It's very easy to get to take a wine Tour of Tuscany by train. Santa Maria Novella station in Florence is one of the main train stations in Italy and it's connected to all the cities in Italy through the FrecciaRossa and Italo services.
From Florence, you can reach all the other destinations closer to vineyard areas in Tuscany thanks to regional train lines.

The best season to visit Tuscany

The best time to visit Tuscany depends on your preferences. Spring (April-June) offers mild weather and blooming landscapes. Summer (July-August) is perfect for sun and beaches, but crowded. Autumn (September-October) is great for wine enthusiasts. This is a harvesting season for both wine grapes and olives. Visiting Tuscany during this unique period will give you the chance to witness the beginning of the production of wine and olive oil. Winter (November-February) is quieter, ideal for exploring art and culture.

What to do in Tuscany?

Tuscany is a region rich in culture and is the home of Italian Renaissance art. Here's what you must not miss in between your wine-tasting tours in Tuscany:

  • Florence is the capital city of Tuscany and one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in the entire world. Stop by the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral and admire the incredible Brunelleschi Dome.
  • Siena, a charming town known for its narrow streets flanked by brick buildings.
  • Pisa, the city of the Leaning Tower.

What to taste in Tuscany?

Tuscany is one of the world's greatest red wine producers. The most popular are Chianti Classico, Sangiovese and Brunello di Montalcino.

  • Chianti Classico is a medium to high-bodied red wine and it's the ultimate Tuscan king.
  • Sangiovese is a more fruit-forward red wine compared to Chianti (even if they come from the same grape).
  • Brunello di Montalcino is another famous wine in Tuscany. Brunello can be young or old, but generally, the most recognizable aromas are those of blackberry, strawberries, chocolate, leather, and delicate flowers.

What to expect from Tuscany wine tours?

If you are a passionate wine enthusiast, participating in Tuscany wine tours is something you cannot miss! All wineries in Tuscany offer exquisite wine tastings, together with very detailed guided tours of their cellars and estates. Many tours in Tuscany also include a guided visit to the magnificent vineyards and in most cases, the guide, often an expert winemaker, will provide you with insights about the wine production. In some cases, your wine tours to Tuscany will also include an olive oil tasting experience, since many wineries also have olive grooves and produce olive oil.

Castello Sonnino The wine tasting here was very informative and done in a very professional manner. They were very respectful as well. We got to see how their winery made their wine and also how they store them till they are aged before bottling. We bought wine here because the staff was very accommodating when we requested to have samples before the purchases. We highly recommend this wine tour in Florence, Italy.
